Camping and BYO BBQ are encouraged during evening events on our residency grounds.
If you plan on camping, please send a note to firstname.lastname@example.org
to let us know.
The project provides two large gas grills for guests' use. We also have several charcoal grills, however we ask that guests bring their own charcoal. Empty coolers are provided to store perishables. Please bring a bag of ice if you plan on using them. Please bring your own beverages, adult or otherwise!
We have some basic camping equipment available for guests' use: but it must be reserved in advance
. Remember to bring your tarps and rain flies, as it gets wet in the mornings and our plateau is subject to frequent bursts of rain. We cannot provide accommodations inside our residency house or studios.
Google Maps and other online map services will send you to the wrong location: please visit this page
for directions. We suggest you print it out, as you will probably lose mobile service at a critical moment on your way here.
Please park with two wheels on the pavement and two on the grass, before the stand of pine trees at the top of the drive.
Guests are invited to park along our quarter-mile-long driveway. We expect it to fill up fast! Please come early if you would rather not park on the street, and please make every effort to car pool.
It gets cold in the mountains! Make sure you pack some warm clothing if you are coming in June, early July, or September.
Please be mindful that the Shandaken Project endeavors to provide a safe and pleasant environment for its residents. Where possible, we ask that you use the disposable plates and cutlery provided. Please utilize the trash and recycle bins provided for your use, or honor the hiker's code: "If you bring it in when you come, bring it out when you leave."
